I had the completely unexpected surprise and delight of getting an email from my spiritual brother last week announcing that he was at home for a visit before his clothing in August. It was such a joy to talk with him again before he returned to his real "home" at the monastery. As much as it is difficult to be unable to talk with him regularly, the real beauty of spiritual friendships is that "there is nothing so small as the universal Church"...we meet in the silence of Jesus' Heart. Perhaps that sounds overly sentimental? From the world's viewpoint, maybe, but as a Catholic, "exposure" to the Source and Summit of life draws us into a kind of love that is neither emotionally based nor fleeting, but a love that finds its source in the eternity of the Heart of the Beloved. That is perhaps what makes a contemplative vocation possible. A human heart could not embrace the whole world, but a soul in which the Trinity resides can truly be a "mother" for a whole world of souls.
oy! what a lot of rambling...mea culpe!

On a purely practical is almost finished!!!
